Frequently asked questions
Short answers about playing Wingsy: Avian Adventures. For a full guide to the mechanics, read how it plays.
What is Wingsy: Avian Adventures?
Wingsy: Avian Adventures is an open-world 3D bird flight game that runs in your web browser. You fly as one of 12 real bird species over a farming village, find food, ride thermals, discover nests and complete story quests.
Is Wingsy finished?
No. Wingsy is in active development. You can play the current version in your browser now, and multiplayer is being built. Sign-in and cloud saves are available. See the roadmap for what is coming.
What do I need to play?
A current browser with WebGL2: Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a computer, phone or tablet. A mouse and keyboard work best, and gamepads and touch screens are supported too.
Does Wingsy work on phones and tablets?
Yes. On touch screens the game shows a virtual joystick for steering and buttons for flap, dive, brake, perch, abilities and menus. It works in portrait and landscape.
Which birds can I play?
Barn Swallow, Common Kingfisher, Common Myna, Syrian Woodpecker, Eurasian Hoopoe, Graceful Prinia, Eurasian Jay, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Hooded Crow, White-spectacled Bulbul, Common Blackbird and Eurasian Stone-curlew. Each has its own flight, diet and abilities. See the bird guide for details.
Is the flight realistic?
The flight model uses each bird's real wingspan, weight and wing area to calculate lift and drag, and each bird reaches its documented top speed. Wings can stall and thermals really lift you. Casual mode makes all of this more forgiving.
How do I switch to another bird?
Perch in an ancestral nest (marked by a golden light pillar) or on the central telephone wires above Swallow Ave, then press Tab and choose a bird.
Why can't I keep flapping?
Flapping costs stamina. Glide, ride a thermal, perch, rest with Z or eat to get it back. Casual mode makes flapping much cheaper.
How do I land on a wire or branch?
Slow down with the air brake (Ctrl, X or right mouse) as you approach, then press F. You cannot perch at full speed.
What does the R key do?
R is your bird's main ability, such as plunge-diving, pecking or probing. Near food marked with a green marker, R also starts the autopilot, which flies you to the food and eats it. Each bird unlocks R at level 2.
What is casual mode?
Casual mode flaps for you when you slow down, removes stalls, softens collisions, lowers the stamina cost of flapping and makes perching easier. It is on by default and can be changed in the pause menu.
Do I need an account?
No. The bulbul and the parakeet are open to everyone, and progress is saved on your device. Sign in with Google to fly all 12 birds, play every mission and sync your progress to your account.
Will there be multiplayer?
Yes. Multiplayer is in development, so you will be able to share the skies over the village with other players.
Is Moshav Kanafayim a real place?
No. Moshav Kanafayim is a made-up village, inspired by the farming villages of Israel's central plain with their orchards, poultry sheds and tile roofs.
Are the bird sounds real?
Yes. Calls and songs are real recordings shared by recordists on xeno-canto.org under Creative Commons licences, and each one is credited in the game. Any sound without a recording is synthesized in the browser.
Which languages does Wingsy support?
English and Hebrew, in the game and on this website. The game picks your browser language and you can change it from the title screen or the pause menu.
How is my progress saved?
Progress saves automatically on your device and syncs to your signed-in account when the cloud service is reachable. Clearing site data removes the local copy. You can reset your save from the pause menu.
Who makes Wingsy?
Wingsy is an independent game, made without a publisher. It is built for the web with Three.js and the Web Audio API.
